Transition Year Curriculum
The Transition Year curriculum is a dynamic programme, and it is designed on teaching,
learning and assessment strategies that facilitates cross-curricular work, experiential
learning, and activity-based learning. The Transition Year curriculum has a balance of core
subjects, leaving certificate subjects and modules which would not normally be on offer at
Junior Cycle or Leaving Certificate levels. The Transition Year programme is modelled in
layers: Core subjects, Subject sampling, Transition Year specific subjects / modules, Elective
and Calendar “Once Off” experiences. The Transition Year programme is reviewed annually
and as a result, the subjects on offer are subject to change each academic year.
