Mary Ward Day

Our school celebrated Mary Ward Day on Wednesday January 24th. The focus of this year was on kindness; to ourselves, to others and to the world around us. Students participated in workshops to highlight these themes. Many thanks to Ms. Clarke, Ms. Hamilton and the Peace and Justice team for organising this.

Aine O'Gorman Visit

Past pupil Aine O'Gorman (LC 2007) and Former Republic of Ireland international paid a visit to us on Tuesday January 16th. Aine was part of our podcast focusing on the importance of participation in sport for girls and she also visited our soccer team's training session.

Kindness Week

Kindness Week ran from the 22nd to the 26th of January. Headed by our Wellbeing Prefect, Kate Kennedy, activities included a lunch time disco, a Teddy bears’ picnic and acts of kindness.

Badminton

Well done to our under 19 A badminton team of Emil Shiju, Kelly Xue, Niamh Mahony and Milly Yan who finished as runners up in the Dublin League.

Congratulations to our under 16 A team of Kripa Kissanthomas, Nora Minto, Eva Shiju and Kate Reid who have qualified for the League Final which will be played after Mid-term.

Basketball

All four of our basketball teams have had a busy start to the new year. Our 1st and 2nd Year teams began their league campaigns.

Our under 16 and under 19 teams have both qualified for their respective Loreto League Finals.

Our under 19 team missed out to St. Louis Monaghan in the All-Ireland Quarter Final played in Oblate Hall on Tuesday January 23rd.

Our under 16 team face St. Joseph's Castlebar in their All-Ireland Quarter Final which will be played in the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght on Thursday February 8th.

Biology Trip

Our 6th Year Biology students had a fantastic learning experience in NUI Maynooth on Friday January 19th where they had the opportunity to conduct Leaving Cert Experiments in state of the art facilities.

5th and 6th Year Music

Our 5th and 6th Year Music students were treated to a performance of Bach's Cantana 78, 'Jesu der du meine Seele' on Wednesday January 24th.

Many thanks to St. Killian's for the invite and to Ms. Mahon and Ms. L. Clarke who accompanied the students.

Sallynoggin College of Further Education

A number of our Leaving Cert students visited Sallynoggin College of Further Education to explore prospective courses on offer. Thank you to Mr. Sweeney and Ms. Ward for accompanying the students.

Gaelic Football

Congratulations to Grace Murphy, 6th Year, who has been selected on to the Wicklow Senior Panel.

Well done to Orla Fee, 5th Year, who has been selected as Vice-Captain for the Wicklow Minors for the season ahead.

Congratulations to 3rd Year students, Hannah Fox, Béibhínn Lavery and Lily Murphy who have been selected to the Wicklow under 16 squad.

Hockey

January has been a busy month for our hockey squads. Our 1st Year A team had a superb win on 1v1s over Mount Temple in the first round of the Leinster Cup.

Our Junior team missed out to a strong Holy Child, Killiney team in the second round of the Leinster Cup. However, they have booked a spot in the Semi-Final of the Leinster League.

Our Minor 1 team had a superb 5-0 win over Sandford Park to book their spot in the Leinster Cup Quarter Final. They also have guaranteed a spot in the Leinster League Semi- Final.

Finally, our Senior team have also booked a Quarter Final spot in the Leinster League.

2nd Year Study Skills

In the lead up to their Spring Exams, Mr. Sweeny facilitated a study skills workshop for our 2nd Year students.

Leaving Cert Subject Options

A big thank you to all of our 6th Year students who spoke to Transition Year students about the wide range of subjects offered at Leaving Cert. Many thanks to Ms. McHugh and Mr. Sweeney for organising this.

Transition Year

Transition Year students have enjoyed a busy month of activities including podcasting, drivers education, a photo scavenger hunt, barista course, personal development, hip hop, retreat and Fighting Words.

TY students embark on their second week of work experience from January 29th to February 2nd and we wish them all the best.

Exams

We wish our 3rd Year and 6th Year students the best of luck for their Mock Exams. We wish our 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th Year students well as they sit their Spring Exams.
