The fourth annual First Year Spelling Bee took place in early December.
The preliminary round saw the largest ever turnout with seventy First Year students taking part; seeing eleven qualify for the Grand Final which was held in the Mary Ward A.P.A., with all First Years attending.
After a tense first round, four students were tied and the ensuing rounds saw a tense ‘ sudden death’ scenario battled out between Mairéad Roche and Sophia O’Connor; with Sophia eventually taking the title for 2019 with Mairéad in Second place and Leona Lazic taking the Bronze medal. Congratulations to all eleven Finalists who took part and all received a certificate from their Year Leader Madame Abautret. A big thanks to Ms. Quigley, who was a fantastic M.C., and to Ms. O’Dwyer and Ms. Clarke who helped organise the Final.
