U17 Leinster League Cup Quarter Final

Wednesday 27 March 2019

Loreto Bray 4-2 Sacred Heart Tullamore

Weather conditions were excellent as we battled for a place in the Leinster semi finals with our opponents from the Midlands. The visitors had the better of the opening exchanges and they force Stacy Corpuz into a number of excellent saves. We were having to defend well and Caoimhe Lawrence & Hollie Kane in particular were doing very well in defence. On the 15th minute mark we took the lead when Lara Hayden got on the ball behind the Tullamore defence to lob the goalkeeper to the net. In fact it surprised a number of our players who thought the ball had gone over the bar. It was 2-0 on 18 minutes when Hayden received the ball on the left of the area from Amy Walsh and she curled a beautiful shot past the keeper into the top corner. Two became three on 25 minutes when a great run from midfield from Sophie Blennerhassett was picked out by Walsh with a great pass, Sophie took the ball in her stride, rounded the goalkeeper and slotted to the empty net for a neat finish. Right on half time Tullamore pulled a goal back when we failed to close down the attacker. The second half was a mirror of the first with Tullamore enjoying loads of possession and us hoping to catch them on the break. We made it 4-1 when Hayden completed her hat trick after cutting in from the left and firing a shot into the roof of the net from 15 yards. However Tullamore wouldn’t lie down and they came right back to reduce the gap to two goals once again. It was end to end stuff at this stage and both teams had chances at the end of the game, but Loreto held on to take their place in the semi finals. Tough game, but an enjoyable game between two evenly matched teams.

Thursday 29 November

Alexandra College 1-4 Loreto Bray

Scorers: Alannah McEvoy 4

On 29 November 2017 our 17’s played away to Naas in the cup and won 4-1 and Alannah McEvoy scored all four goals and exactly a year to the day we had the same result, scorer albeit different opposition. This result wasnt just about one player as a number of other players performed excellently. Amy Cahill was outstanding in goal while among others who played well were Caoimhe Lawrence, Mairead Sheridan and Keeley McDermott. We went in at half time 2-0 Thanks to two super solo goals from Alannah McEvoy. They made it 1-2 early in the second half but we stood firm and every player worked their socks off. Alannah put the game to bed with two more cracking goals in the final 10 minutes to seal a cracking win. We had a very young side out today and though we were missing some players the players who came in let no one down and did very well in what was our first Senior game in a couple of years. This was our first ever win over Alexandra.

Thursday 22 November

U15 Loreto Bray ‘B’ 1- 1 East Glendalough ‘B’

Scorer: Hannah Hoban

Though this game had some very scrappy opening exchanges our team improved greatly as the game wore on. Against the run of play the away side took the lead. Just before half time Hannah Hoban equilised with a tidy finish. We were the much better team in  the second half and Hannah should have scored the winning goal but she rushed her chance & the shot went wide. On the day among the players who starred were Aoife Lau, Stacey Corpuz & Amy Cunningham.

U15 Loreto Bray ‘A’ 0-1 East Glendalough ‘A’

We made a strong start to this game with Lara Hayden & Rachel Jones especially playing well. Unfortunatly our play wasn’t rewarded with a goal. The only goal of the game came midway through the second half when our defence got in a mix up, failing to clear and ended up scoring an own goal. This turned out to be the only goal of the game. Those who starred on the day included Tiegan Lacey, Hollie Kane & Lucy Hickson.

Tuesday 20 November

U17 Loreto Bray 2-2 Alexandra College

Scorers: Amy Walsh & Keeley McDermott

U17’s found themselves a goal down after 15 seconds and two down after 15 minutes but credit to our girls for showing great character and coming back to score two goals before half time to restore parity thanks to Amy & Keeley. Weather conditions which were bad throughout the game deteriorated further in the second half and there were no further scoring. After the teams recent heavy defeat in the cup this was a great boost for the team and the whole team can be proud of themselves. On the day Abbie Evans-Murray, Caoimbhe Lawrence & Jane Kelly were among the pick of the Loreto players.
