Advice on Covid-19 (Coronavirus) Tuesday 3 March 2020

As you are aware the first case of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) in Ireland was confirmed on Saturday, 29 February 2020.

As part of the follow up investigation and public health management of this case, and in order to prevent the possible spread of infection, the Department of Health have asked that a school in the east of the country be closed for 14 days (until 16 March 2020). (Please note this is not a school in our locality).

The closing of that particular school was based on public health grounds after a risk assessment had been completed. All other schools including Loreto Bray will remain open and have been advised to continue their daily routine as normal while following the advice as issued by the Department of Health. The Department of Health have issued letters to schools and to parents and these can be found on the DES website:

We have shared this advice with the students in class yesterday and would ask that you discuss the preventative measures with your daughter in particular regular hand washing and good cough/sneeze hygiene. Our school cleaning routine will include daily sanitising of desks, door handles, and other surfaces each evening. However, in addition to these measures, you may wish to purchase hygiene products (e.g. hand sanitiser, hygiene wipes, tissues) for your daughter to bring with her to school.

More detailed information on Covid-19 and its’ prevention can be found on the HSE website:

Links to these websites and any other relevant information will be posted on www.loretobray.com (under the Parents tab). Should there be any change in the advice given, we will update on the school website.
