On Wednesday 25 January our school will celebrate the founder of the Loreto Order, Mary Ward. This is always an exciting day in the school calendar where students are given the opportunity to explore the key values that underpin a Loreto education. Justice, Freedom, Truth, Sincerity and Joy.
This year we are going to raise funds to support the work of the Loreto Order in Rumbek, South Sudan. The Principal of the school is Sr. Orla Treacy, a past pupil of Loreto Bray. She was recently in our school and addressed the students about her experiences in South Sudan. She explained that the country is rife with political conflict and violence and that during the last year she has witnessed unprecedented hardship. The vast majority of girls in South Sudan do not have access to secondary education and the opportunity to receive an education offers hope in the face of conflict, hunger and despair.
If you would like to leave a cash donation, which will be given directly to the school in South Sudan, you may do so by leaving your donation into the office on Wednesday or any day that week. Students are also requested to bring in a donation which they can leave in a special jar in the APA from Monday.
