On Monday 7 March, secondary schools from all over ireland met in Croke Park for the 1916 Flag Ceremony. Each school sent representatives to accept the Irish Flag on behalf of their school. Emily Shiel, Eva O’Hara and Aine McEntegart had the opportunity to attend the ceremony, where they learned about the importance and history of the Irish flag.
President Michael D. Higgins made an inspiring speech to the students both in Irish and English, making an appeal for young people to get involved in their community. Ryan Tubridy hosted the event and various speakers spoke about the Thomas Meagher foundation – a foundation which aims to honour and and spread the message of the Irish flag.
Each student representative accepted the flag on behalf of their school. It was a very memorable and enjoyable day.
